Very nice apartment, though with some challenges
In the Alibel Beach Villa complex there are two buildings with a pool in-between (and another building where the owners live). The apartment that we rented takes the whole first floor of one of the buildings. It’s nicely decorated in mixture typical creole style and modernity. It consists of a large living room with a kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers. In the bed rooms are large, quite comfortable double beds and small wardrobes. Both bedrooms are airconditioned In the living room one can find a large sofa and a TV, but no A/C, while the dining table can be found on the large terrace. In the kitchen one can find a large fridge, a cooker, an oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher and a coffee machine Nescafe Dolce Gusto. There are also dishes, cutlery, pots etc. Before arrival we received all information from the owner, she was also to support us during our stay and let us check out late as our plane was in the evening. Upon arrival with received a welcome gift with bottle of rum, water and some food, a well as several coconuts to drink. The are some fruit trees on the domain and one can collect and eat them. For our kid the main attractions was a nice pool and turtles living by the owners’ house. The location has some advantages, for example the beach is just across the road. It’s a good beach for people with children as water is still and shallow. On the ends of the beach one can observe fish, including stingrays. There are some shops, takeaways and restaurants within few minutes of walking. If one comes by car there’s a private parking, while if by bus there’s a stop right next to the apartment.
The main challenge that we faced was an unwanted “guest”: one evening we stayed at the terrace and left the windows opened. We closed them before going to bed but were woken up at night by some noises. We woke up and found a rat in our apartment. By the signs it left it seems it was mainly spending time in the room that our kid slept. After struggling for quite some time we finally managed to make it leaving the apartment. The next day the owner responded clearing throughout the apartment, and planned to call the specialist in the rodent control. I hope she did so, but my advice would be never leave the windows open unless you spend time tight next to it. Another unwanted guest was cockroaches, fortunately the appeared in very small number, like one or two during our whole stay. Apart from that the other main challenge is the west coast road making us waking up at night from time to time. It’s passing just by the apartment, making there 90 degrees turn to bypass Canopy resort, so the cars have to slow down (breaks of some, especially trucks, are noisy), and then to accelerate (with some drivers doing it with full power). Additionally, some local drivers like to drive with playing very loudly music even in the middle of the night.

We had a lovely stay at Alibel Beach Villa. The villa is just a couple of minutes’ walk from Anse à la Mouche beach, set in a pretty tropical garden with a nice swimming pool. There are giant tortoises kept in an enclosure in the garden nearby, which was a real highlight for us, and the friendly, cheerful dogs added to the homely atmosphere. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. There are a few small shops and restorants nearby, it’s a quiet, local area rather than a tourist hub. One thing to note: for the nearby beach, it’s worth checking the tide times. What really made our stay special was the incredibly warm welcome from Salifa and her family. They were so friendly and helpful from the start, always ready to assist with anything we needed. Salifa gave us detailed, practical tips for getting around and making the most of our time on Mahé, which we found really valuable. I’d definitely recommend hiring a car if you want to explore the island at your own pace — it gives you much more freedom. We would happily come back and highly recommend Alibel Beach Villa for a relaxing, authentic Seychelles stay.
