    It's spectacular. The view from the kitchen is amazing. I think we made the best choice to get this room. The hosts were also very pleasant.

    The breakfast was too sweet for our taste, too many carbs and no protein. Maybe some prosciutto would be nice to be added to that amazing Matera bread.

    Ci è piaciuto tutto. L'ubicazione era perfetta. Luca e Orsolita sempre gentili e disponibili, ci hanno fatto sentire a casa. La stanza nei sassi era bellissima e proprio quello che volevamo. La colazione molto, molto buona. Non possiamo che consigliarlo vivamente!

    Lovely staff, convenient location, a pretty hotel that stands out from the crowd.

    This sassi hotel stood out from the crowd. First, it has very kind and friendly staff. For example, we had bought some Altamura bread with us and asked the breakfast staff if they could cut us a piece to try - and they cheerfully made us a second breakfast with butter and local jam. Second, it's very easy to reach, located right at the top of the sassi, close to one of the main squares, where you are met by hotel staff. After reading other reviews about the long and confusing walk down through the sassi to find a hotel, we had packed only a small overnight bag, but this hotel turned out to be only a few yards away (but peaceful), and with a wonderful view over the valley. Note to car drivers: If you like sassi, don't miss a visit to the old part of Matera's neighbouring town Ginosa - it has been sadly neglected, but is totally atmospheric - what Matera was like before it was restored, and there are virtually no tourists (locals asked us if we were pilgrims!). Follow signs to the Norman castle at the end of town.

    Our room was great for us, a perfect balance of cave and light, but one of the larger and more expensive rooms we viewed was definitely for cave lovers - deep and dark and atmospheric - so just make sure you want the full sassi experience before you book that one.
