Passable stay in relatively cheap but very tired flat needing a thorough makeover.
The property is in High Pittington and on a convenient bus route into Durham, not far away, which we used to visit the city. It is also not far from the sea and we visited Easington Colliery, which is a village on the coast which used to owe its existence to coal mining and made famous during the miners' strikes in the 1970s. and there is a memorial there to remember those killed in a major pit explosion. The ground floor flat we had (no.3) for three nights was reasonably comfortable to stay in for sleeping and in the sitting room. There was a convenient parking space at the back of the flats for each flat. Everything worked, i.e. TV, cooker, shower etc.
The outdoor patio was untidy, full of weeds and clearly uncared for - not somewhere we wanted to sit. It could have been much better. The windows generally were in poor repair due to various stages of rot - we were afraid to open the toilet window in case it fell out completely due to the rotten frame. The whole place was tired and hard to keep clean: the carpet under the several covering rugs for instance. The freezer was unusable because, although it was working, it hadn't been defrosted for ages and was all iced up. We wondered about the 'Breakfast provided' in the Booking.com blurb and think it is a misleading statement for a flat where you do all your own cooking or go out to eat: it actually meant that some provisions were left to use but many were just leftovers from previous occupants! That's ok for things like salt and pepper and maybe sugar, tea and coffee but not part used cereal and butter. Fresh bread and milk was provided. The finish in the bathroom/toilet was poor - we marvelled at how badly it had been done and hope whoever did it didn't get paid. As it is, it will lead to damp problems with no proper seal between it and the walls. By the way, the flat advertised in Booking.com was no. 6 so we were surprised to find we weren't in no. 6 - also a ground floor flat but clearly occupied by someone else.

What a wonderful, thoughtful hostess! Would definitely stay here again. Thank you Anne.
The apartment was in a peaceful area, with outside space to sit. A well maintained property, clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable, the shower was excellent. There was plenty of space for dining and for relaxing. We were delighted to find lots of provisions in the kitchen on our arrival, including milk, butter, bread, jams, cereals, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits. The bathroom was equally well stocked, with M&S toiletries, as well as toothpaste and lots of other useful items. We really appreciated the fact that the heating was easily controllable and not restricted, as it was a bit chilly when we arrived. Plenty of books were available for guests to read and information was left about local facilities. There was a bus stop outside the apartment, and we were able to travel into Durham easily. Would recommend Bells chip shop restaurant, for the best fish and chips.
If I were to nit pick, I would suggest bins in the bedrooms. But it is only nit picking.

Lovely clean apartment and very well presented. Raised concerns with owner who deeply apologised for rude neighbour!
Great size, lovely and clean property!
Being barked at by the neighbours opposite for parking opp the flat when my daughter came to visit ! No no parking signs or double yellows! Was threatened that she’d get a parking ticket - really put a downer on the stay as he was very abrupt!
