Humid, mold, infested with ants. awful experience overall.
Location. That’s it.
The apartment is in an excellent location—walking distance to everything in La Fortuna while being on a quiet street away from the noise. The owner was also responsive when we requested extra pillows, towels, and an extension cord, since there are virtually no accessible electrical outlets in the bedroom besides the one behind the TV. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. When you’re on vacation, you should look forward to returning to your accommodation after a long day to relax and recharge. For us, it was the complete opposite. We actually found ourselves delaying going back because the apartment was so unpleasant to stay in. We visited during the rainy season, and the apartment clearly struggles with humidity. The moment we walked in, we were hit by a strong smell of moisture and mold. There is no dehumidifier, no exhaust fan in the bathroom or kitchen, and no window screens, making it nearly impossible to air out the apartment without inviting more insects inside. The mold issue was impossible to ignore. There was visible mold behind the bed, mold stains throughout the apartment, and everything we owned became damp within hours. By the third day, both my wife and I had developed sore throats, congestion, and coughs. We can’t say with certainty that the apartment caused us to become sick, but constantly breathing humid, moldy air certainly didn’t help. Our symptoms eventually became severe enough that we had to seek medical treatment during our vacation, costing us over $450. The insect problem was even worse than expected. We expected little spiders and other insects because it’s Costa Rica during rainy season. But ants were everywhere—on the kitchen counters, walls, bathroom, and even inside the bedroom. At anytime, we’d find 5–15 ants crawling on the mattress. There was a trail of ants walking in line near the ceiling.

La ubicación es perfecta, cerca de muchos restaurantes, supermercados, tiendas y hasta lavanderías. Todo estaba muy limpio y cómodo, el área del Jacuzzi muy bonita y privada, fue un buen viaje!
