Very beautiful place, great staff, less great room and too much "traditional" but not in a good way
The place is very beautiful! Many places to walk around and see the fishes and the architecture
Our room has a smell of rotten wood... not so nice. The "beds" were not comfortable at all.. The massage was not good. The food was to much traditionally, so we didn't like it al all... the breakfast is also traditional, so know what you're paying for.

A Soul-Healing Escape in Fuefuki
My partner and I were looking to go slightly off the beaten path for our very first trip to Japan, and exploring the charming, vine-filled town of Fuefuki turned out to be a brilliant decision. Staying at the Garden Kagetsu Ryokan was an absolute surprise and easily one of the most memorable parts of our entire journey. The traditional rooms are stunning, featuring expansive tatami mats, sliding shoji doors, and gorgeous indoor stone features that create an immediate sense of zen. Slipping into the provided yukatas and simply relaxing together in such an authentic space set the perfect tone for our stay. Outside, the pristine grounds are meticulously maintained and incredibly peaceful to wander through, whether you are admiring the sculpted pines under a bright blue sky or taking in the serene, illuminated courtyard at night. Spending time sitting by the water and feeding the vibrant koi in the ryokan’s tranquil ponds was a remarkably magical experience. Finally, the culinary experience was nothing short of extraordinary. The delicious, intricately prepared traditional dinners—featuring incredible cuts of marbled beef cooked right at the table—and the deeply comforting breakfasts genuinely healed our souls. If you are looking for an authentic, rejuvenating escape in Japan with impeccable hospitality, we cannot recommend Garden Kagetsu enough.

Super authentic stay. Very special.
The gardens are really nice. All super authentic. Great onsens. The lady in the reception who knows English is super nice. All others are nice as well but just harder to communicate.
Location quite far from the nearest train station. About 20 min walk. They do suggest shuttle service in the morning and afternoon. If you are with a vehicle then the location is no issue. Could be nice if more staff would speak English.
