Quite nice place, albeit a tad dark inside. Fantastic location. However, Kafkaesque service.

Facilities were far nicer than expected, albeit a tad dark vis-à-vis daylight (good lamps at night, however). It is right next to the beach (that I did not realize until I was ready to check out) and close to the attractions and restaurants on the island. However, as described below, the stay was marred by Kafkaesque service.

The place was nice enuf, but initially, the woman on the phone gave me the wrong code to get in. I asked her three times, “1941, like Pearl Harbor, right?” When I got there and couldn’t get in, she said, “It’s 1541.” As I’m not a late-renaissance historian, I didn’t have a good mnemonic for that. Okay . . I'll write that off to a bad connection. However, when I got back from dinner, the key pad wouldn’t light at all. When I called, the woman insisted, “It CAN’T not be working” . . . but alas, it was not. She told me it would take her two hours to come and fix it. And then, it started raining. Hard. When I suggested that that two hours was unacceptable and asked for alternatives, I could have sworn that she swore at me before she hung up on me. When I called back, I got the machine. Fortunately, I surprised myself with a newfound ability easily to break in by pulling out a window air conditioner and crawling in through a bedroom window. Perhaps I can supplement my Social Security with a career as a cat burglar. However, I also was somewhat dismayed that someone as mechanically clueless as myself easily was able to break in, mildly fretting après B&E about the crappy security. As I also had called a secondary number and left a message, about an hour later, a bedraggled dude showed up grumbling that he hadn’t slept in two days and just drove in from Texas, further grousing that the woman didn’t want to do her job and that they were going to have “words” tomorrow. Oooh . . . DRAMA! As it turns out, it wasn’t the batteries - the pad just didn’t work. He asked, “Didn’t they leave you a key, we had been having issues with that pad.” Great. He then left a key and left. The next day, a different guy showed up while I was out to breakfast to open it for his wife to do the cleaning. “I thought you had checked out and the key pad didn’t work, so I pushed the AC screen open, reached in and opened the door, and saw that you hadn’t checked out.” Great security.

Overall the place is nice. I especially enjoyed the patio out front.

The location was perfect for our needs. We were on the island for a fishing tournament and it is very centrally located on the island. The kitchen is well stocked if you are going to prepare meals there, and the grocery stores on the island have literally everything you can possibly need.

The linens on the bed, particularly the mattress pad on the king size bed were very dirty. It gave me a little pause to sleep in the bed, but since there were four of us staying there, we had to use that room. The shower curtain was not lined so I bought one at the local store and hung it to help avoid adding to the mildew at the bottom of the shower curtain that was there. No one wants that touching them during a long awaited shower after fishing all day.
