  Disappointing stay

  The location was perfect

  The apartment was in a convenient location for Cardiff University, but unfortunately the condition of the property didn’t justify the price we paid. There was a noticeable smell of damp throughout, and the plaster around the bedroom window showed signs of dampness. The kitchen was well equipped, but it felt very tired, with chipped cupboards and surfaces. The skirting boards also needed a more thorough clean. The biggest issue was the outside area. The cleaners had left the previous guests’ rubbish in white bin bags without separating recycling correctly. Birds had ripped the bags open, leaving rubbish strewn across the area immediately outside the dining room window. Two council workers attended and explained that it was the landlord’s responsibility to ensure waste was correctly segregated. My husband ended up helping them clear the mess, which took around 20 minutes. The building alarm in the communal area also went off unnecessarily. Although there was a reset button and we were able to stop it, it clearly needs repairing or replacing. The beds were disappointing. The two single sprung mattresses were very uncomfortable and really need replacing. There were four pillows provided, but only two were good quality. We were also only given one small towel per person. Providing a hand towel as well as a bath towel for each guest would be a simple improvement. Overall, the apartment was functional and well located, but it felt poorly maintained and not good value for the amount we paid.

  Modest bur comfortable, 15 minutes walk from the city centre.

  The accommodation was clean and comfortable. It was a good kitchen for preparing breakfasts and lunch, but was a little under-resourced for preparing dinner. The rental agent was approachable whenever we had to contact them. The accommodation was in a good location, just a few minutes from the park, and 15 minutes walk from the city centre and major tourist sites.

  The heating in the lounge was moderately effective. The shower needed a pull-switch activated to operate, and the settings were difficult to control.
