    Ruined Holiday

    Not relevant.

    We had rented this apartment for 16 days. The third day of our stay the problems started. The adjacent apartment was being totally renovated! The noise in the daytime between 8-14 was absolutely terrible - we had to leave the apartment every day in this time period. Apparently the adjacent walls of two of our bedrooms were having everything torn down including the floors (marble?) with machines and drilling into the walls. We contacted the “owner”, who turns out to be a manager (only contact is WhatsApp )- we understood that she manages around 20 other apartments. We were offered no help, just a minor compensation of 10%. No relocation, no one came to check on us or hear the noise for themselves - a noise which must have been well above the limits of the allowed. There was a minor earthquake in Palermo during this stay where museums, schools and public buildings were closed down - no one contacted us to see how we were doing or to offer advice in case of emergency. In the end we moved to a hotel - at our own expense! So - the point here is, that if you are looking for an apartment where you want to have contact with an owner in case of the need for help go for the ones where it says “private host”. Otherwise you are on your own. They had left small rubber earplugs on each bed when we arrived - wonder why?
