Very disappointing – poor communication, stressful check-in and tired, basic accommodation.
It was in Bologna although 15/20 minutes walk to main sites.
Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my stay, particularly with the communication and check-in process. As a solo traveller, I contacted the property two days before arrival to ask how I would check in but received no response. I messaged again 24 hours beforehand and again on the morning of my arrival, still with no reply. Eventually I had to contact Booking.com customer service because I was travelling to Italy without knowing how I would access the accommodation. I only received check-in instructions at approximately 4:40pm, after I had already landed in Italy and after customer service contacted the property. This caused a lot of unnecessary stress, particularly as I was travelling alone. Had the booking been refundable, I would have cancelled at that stage. When I arrived, there was nobody at the property and I had to call again. Someone eventually arrived, briefly told me the room was on the third floor and gave me the lockbox code. The accommodation itself was very basic and tired. The furnishings were dated, there were visible stains on the blanket covering the fold-out sofa/bed, the bed linen smelled musty, and the air conditioning was extremely noisy, which made sleeping difficult. It is also worth noting that it is around a 15–20 minute walk from the main sights, which may matter if you only have a short time in Bologna. Overall, the combination of extremely poor communication, stressful check-in and the condition of the accommodation meant I would not stay here again.
