    Overall, the accommodation was clean, the bed was comfortable and there was reliable hot water, but the location, maintenance issues, disorganised check-in and particularly the unexpected access to our room significantly affected our experience.

    There were several aspects that made our stay less convenient. The location is quite far from Palermo city centre, around a 30-minute walk, and the buses are not very reliable. This means you lose a lot of flexibility when planning your day and getting around the city. The bathroom was very small, and both the door handle and the tap were loose and seemed to be coming off, so some maintenance is needed. The biggest issue initially was the check-in. I informed the host the day before, and again on the day of arrival, that we would be arriving in Palermo at around 2:00–2:30 pm. However, I only received a response close to 5:00 pm. In the end, the host simply explained the check-in procedure over the phone, which could easily have been communicated much earlier. The check-in system itself is also unnecessarily complicated, with a key that is left hanging in a common area shared by the different rooms. This common area is quite small, and you can hear everything from inside the rooms whenever someone enters or uses it. More concerningly, on Saturday morning we left our room and returned at around 2:00 pm to find a man doing laundry and changing bed linen, using our room as an access point to the balcony to hang clothes outside. We had not been informed that anyone would be entering or passing through our room while we were away. Regardless of the reason, we found this very uncomfortable and an unacceptable lack of privacy during our stay.
