A great place that enabled us to have a great holiday and enjoy southern England
This was a great cottage in Shaftesbury with all the facilities that we needed and lots of character. The holiday was just my wife and I, but we were travelling around the south of England to visit friends and family for a week. Shaftesbury was a central location, and a great town with all that you need from supermarkets, bespoke shops, plenty of outside areas and a lot of history. The cottage had off-road parking, which is essential in Shaftesbury. It was a five minute walk to the town centre and it was great for our grandson staying with us for a couple of days. Well-equipped, clean, tidy and easy to settle into. Although this is a character cottage, the place was warm and homely (cosy).
We did have to use the heating, as autumn approached and there needs to be some flexibility in adjusting the heating which was locked. it wasn't cold but as winter appears it will need to be used.

Good location and interesting house but several niggles
Good location in easy walking distance of centre of Shaftesbury. Very old characterful semi detached cottage if you are interested in history. Off street parking, which was a bit tricky. Nice (private) garden to look at, with patio, loggia and table for visitors to eat outside. Good broadband with lots of repeaters in different rooms and USB sockets. Well equipped kitchen. Good recycling of waste. Lots of tourist brochures
We did not sleep well because the double bed was very soft and bit noisy from traffic at night (no secondary glazing in bedrooms). Without prior warning, we were woken at 8.15am by gardeners coming to trim trees with chainsaws outside windows. There were 6x plug-in smell dispensers, mostly upstairs - which exacerbated my asthma. There was a comprehensive book of rules which was useful, but these were repeated in lots of 'dos and don'ts' notices throughout the house. Several lights were still compact florescent - not LEDs No second toilet (though an additional toilet was advertised in Booking.com website)

Thoughtfully and generously stocked, the cottage is also full of character with a location enabling easy access to the town of Shaftesbury and the stunning English countryside all around. The host also kindly helped with recommendations for our stay. Thank you!
