    Great base to explore and wander into and around Funchal from, great local neighbourhood.

    Excellent location, 10-15 minute walk into Funchal, and although uphill on the way back, it wasn’t difficult. Local, older area, lots of character and nearby museums. The Cafe Ariffes opposite did the beat pregos we tasted, very reasonable and open whenever you might need one, as well as few essential grocery items. The lounge area was spacious with several sofas and an amazing sea view. The balcony was great for watching sunrises or sunsets and relaxing with a cool breeze. The inclusion of ceiling fans in two rooms and electric fans in the bedrooms allowed for cooler rooms when sleeping, the shutters and blackout curtains also kept the light and heat out. The kitchen was well equipped and had a large fridge.
