A truly unforgettable stay in the heart of the Daintre: five stars is not enough

If we could give Daintree Wilderness Lodge more than five stars, we would. We are now coming to the end of our month-long honeymoon in Australia, and we wanted to leave this review because our stay here was genuinely one of the most memorable experiences of our lives. The lodge is completely immersed in the Daintree, the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, and everything about the place makes you feel deeply connected to it. The cabins are incredible and have been designed so that nature becomes part of the experience, rather than simply the view outside. Even the smallest details reflect the character and history of the forest: our bathroom basin was made from a 180-million-year old fossilised tree trunk, while the glass wall of the shower makes you feel as though you are showering right in the middle of the rainforest, completely surrounded by tropical greenery. We ate at the lodge throughout our stay, and the food was another real highlight. Breakfast was generous and varied, the cocktails were excellent, especially the Annick fiz, and dinner was consistently delicious. We particularly loved the crocodile spring rolls, the incredibly juicy kangaroo steak, and the perfectly crispy fish and chips. As if the setting were not special enough, during our stay we were lucky enough to have a wild cassowary wandering through the lodge, an unforgettable moment and the perfect reminder that you really are staying in the heart of the rainforest. After a month travelling around Australia, this was one of those rare places that felt like an experience in itself, not simply somewhere to stay. Romantic, peaceful, authentic, exceptionally clean and well maintained, yet still completely immersed in nature: a true highlight of our honeymoon. An exceptional experience from beginning to end. Five stars simply don’t do it justice.
