    Horrible, buyer beware

    Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by serious problems with the property and the way our concerns were handled.

    Buyer beware. The advertised air conditioning did not work during extremely hot weather (100F, 38 C) while we were traveling with a child and elderly family members. We reported it immediately, but it was never fixed. Instead, we were told to use the curtains/open the windows, and her first response to my request was that we were “lucky to have electricity.” Basic supplies were also missing. The shower is unusable, and the opening was poorly constructed and sized. When we tried to resolve the situation professionally, the host became verbally abusive, insulting, and extremely unprofessional, rather than addressing the problems. We left the next morning immediately and found a place with working AC and helpful staff. Given our concerns for safety and fear of the host, we had no choice but to leave. Most disappointing, Booking.com did not resolve the situation despite our documentation and repeated requests for help. We were ultimately told they could do nothing further because the host refused to authorize the refund. Travelers should be aware that even when a major advertised amenity is not provided, Booking.com may leave the refund decision in the hands of the property owner.
