    a nightmare

    the "game room" is the uninsulated garage, which on a hot summer night (97F) took 4 hours of running its "swamp cooler" to get down to 93F. The place was locked when I arrived at 6:15pm; I called the owner with my last watt of battery power; he said he knew nothing about my booking and blamed that on Booking.com. ~ Booking.com had sent me 7 emails immediately after booking confirming the booking, providing information, telling me the property owner had been notified of (& approved) my arrival time of 6-7pm, etc. ~ I had to wait in 97F heat for someone to come let me in. They turned on the A/C in the house and inspected the "swimming pool" (an above-ground tank) & spa and found them filthy & unusable. It took 4 hours to clean & prepare them. There is no "lush garden", just a blasted moonscape. In the listing note the tiny asterisk & footnote under What's Nearby: "Shortest estimated walking or driving distances displayed. Actual distances may vary. *No walking or driving route available. The distance displayed is measured in a straight line." ~ (I didn't notice it until the next day). The owner sent a text when I was still upset after several hours with no improvement, asking if I wanted a refund. I assumed he meant an adjustment, as it was late at night and miles down a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, a long drive from any other possible accommodations (Joshua tree was at least 1/2 hour away & booked up due to it being the peak of the best annual meteor shower (Perseids) which was occurring for the 1st time in decades during a "New" (no) moon. The next day I requested a partial refund, and the owner refused any refund ~ saying that by staying I had "accepted" the condition of the place. He offered late check-out, 1pm instead of 11am, and a discount coupon for a future stay. I left at 10:15am. I wouldn't stay there again if he paid me.

    It was a fantastic stay.

    Only one restroom which isn’t the biggest issue, just a slight inconvenience.
