While Cambodian rural architecture has been extensively studied by leading researchers, they found the sad fact is that traditional housing has been disappearing at a too fast pace from the countryside and, obviously, from urban development. At Dontrei Villa Angkor, we love these houses. Because they tell us of the Cambodian past, of the cleverness and humility of the past generations. Because they are things of beauty, harmoniously blending into their natural environment – sit on the balcony of any of our houses and you’ll get the feeling. And because they are surprisingly adapted to modern life, with the wooden walls gently absorbing the day heat, and releasing it at dusk. Dontrei Villa Angkor founder and director Davy Chan, along with husband Ly and a team of carpenters, has rescued and repurposed some nine traditional houses since 2019. Some of the houses are from over 30-year old to 160-year old Cambodian traditional houses. Gently dismantling these time-honored structures, moving them with care to our grounds, redesigning them while keeping their harmonious proportions, replacing damaged timber and roof tiles: this is a labor we undertake with our heart. A deposit may be required at the property.

Glad we only booked to stay there one night.
Nice pool. Staff helpful. We booked the property for a rural experience but we were disappointed as we expected more from reading the reviews of the property.
Rooms very musty and mouldy smelling. Mosquito net was covered in dust.

An excellent, quiet, and comfortable hotel with a remarkable team! The hotel is very quiet—a rarity when traveling in Asia—and the bedding is excellent. You really sleep well there. But what made my stay truly enjoyable was Chooy; she is one of the best staff members I encountered during my entire trip to Asia. She is kind, polite, respectful, helpful, and extremely professional. She is a deeply caring person who takes her work seriously and genuinely looks after the guests. Honestly, my stay wouldn't have been the same without her. She contributes immensely to the quality of this hotel and deserves recognition for both her work and her personal qualities. A huge thank you to Chooy for her warm welcome and professionalism. She is a real asset to this establishment!
