A Sewer Disguised as a Riad! One of the Worst Hotel Experiences I Have Ever Had in Marrakech

I booked a Deluxe room, paying more than for a Standard room, expecting spacious and comfortable accommodation. Instead, the room was extremely small, with barely enough space for our clothes. The real problem, however, was an overpowering smell of sewage, noticeable from the moment we entered the room. I immediately reported it to the receptionist, who acknowledged the foul smell and apologised, attempting to address it with an air freshener and two candles. Obviously, these can only mask an odour, not eliminate the underlying sewage problem. I was offered the possibility of changing rooms every day, an unreasonable solution for a three-night stay. I was subsequently advised to move to another hotel, but since it was already evening, I decided to stay rather than disrupt our plans. I requested a full or partial refund for the inconvenience, but received nothing. The worst part was the way my complaint was handled the following day. Initially, the receptionist had explicitly acknowledged the sewage smell, apologised and attempted to address it. However, after speaking with the manager, the staff's attitude changed completely. The manager personally entered our room with me and, despite the strong smell of sewage still being clearly present, denied that there was any unpleasant odour in front of both me and my girlfriend. Her explanation? She claimed she could only smell my perfume! This was an utterly unbelievable excuse and a complete mockery of us as guests. The hotel had initially acknowledged the problem, but when it became clear that they could not resolve it, they chose to deny its existence instead. I also pointed out that I was not the only guest who had reported this issue. The smell was also noticeable on the top floor, near what the hotel calls a swimming pool, making even sunbathing an unpleasant experience.

What disappointed us most was not simply the sewage problem itself, but the complete lack of professionalism, honesty and respect shown by the management. No solution, no apology from the manager, and not even a partial refund. I strongly advise anyone visiting Marrakech to avoid this property. Hospitality requires honesty, accountability and respect for guests. Denying a problem that your own staff initially acknowledged, and claiming that the smell of sewage is actually a guest's perfume, is the exact opposite of what this profession should stand for. I would never return and would not recommend this property to anyone.

If you want a magical experience, stay here!!

A million things. Regardless of how lovely the Riad is and the amenities, what makes the space is the staff. The face of the RIAD and our first introduction was the front desk lady Nouhaila. She was the one that greeted us and got us situated. We landed around 9:00 a.m., she promptly arranged a RIAD driver to come get us at the airport. He was there on time, and brought us to the RIAD. From the moment we met her until we checked out she went above and beyond in hospitality. She offered us breakfast, and hurried the room cleaners to get our room ready even though we were MUCH earlier than normal check in time. A table was set and we were served an exceptional breakfast in a gorgeous sitting area. Any time I needed anything, Nouhalia made sure that we had it within minutes. She was happy to service us, and so efficiently. You can totally tell that she cares about the place she works, and she genuinely cares about the guests. She doesn't just do her job, she goes above and beyond. Then we have the lady that cleaned our room, Bouchra. She was extremely warm, friendly, social, and even if I said I didn't need the room cleaned that day, she would offer to refresh anything, water, tea, towels. She serviced us as if we were in her home. The rooms smelled like heaven. She was so warm, kind, and happy to make us comfortable. She made our stay so special. Hooyan was amazing at breakfast. She memorized all the customizations after the first breakfast, and served to our specifications every time. She was lovely to speak with, such an amazing energy, she went above and beyond just being a server. The person who helped her, Chaima also was so warm and friendly. This RIAD while gorgeous, comfortable, and spacious would not be the same if it was not for the folks that work there, they made this an extremely magical experience. Their service and hospitality is beyond excellent.

LEAVING!!! I could have never have left. Saying goodbyes is very hard when they make you feel like home.
