A Hidden Gem of Art, History and Tranquillity
Perched on a hill overlooking Galle’s old colonial harbour, Doornberg House is one of those rare places that defy categorisation, thanks to its beauty and exclusivity. Its owner, Peter Harris, has turned it into a truly special retreat from which to discover Sri Lanka’s artistic and historical heritage. With just three rooms, decorated with pieces from his personal art collection, Doornberg is an exceptional place to spend hours reading on the verandah, lounging by the pool or simply chatting with its charming owner about art and architecture. Everyone at the house made our stay perfect and unforgettable.
Having to leave.

A very personal & emotional experience . It became our home
The historic property built in 1712 , offers the most remarkable views to the sea & the UNESCO Galle Fort Interiors sublime , a mix of Dutch Colonial with a contemporary cut thru . Wonderful art with a library of Design & Art books The house is situated in an acre of garden , pool hidden at the bottom of the garden . Dutch netted beds , 10 inch mattresses monogrammed linen , the room scented with Jasmin Staff naturally attentive , breakfast under a shady rose apple tree beautifully laid , Sth Asian touches in all the menu choices .
Better could have been the choice to have stayed longer Sri Lanka is very hot at this time of the year . Being high on the hill overlooking the sea means there is always a cool breeze We decided to have dinner on the lawn in the garden which was lit with flares , the breezes in the evening incredible . What a setting !
