    Lacking the Details

This is our second time to stay at The Faraway on Nantucket. Our first stay was two years ago was not great. We decided to give it another try as we were told it's under new management. Well, this stay was equally unimpressive. Poor check in experience, the rooms aren't ready until 4:00 pm, we were supposed to receive a call, no call came. It was 4:20.. Our room was extremely small. There was zero room to put clothes away, we lived out of our suitcases for 4 days. Rooms not cleaned until 3:00. There are no glasses in the room, but there's a mini fridge with alcohol to make mixed drinks.

Cute, quaint hotel in the middle of everything!

We stayed in Room 411 in the Gate House. It was a standard King room. The rooms are small and tight but no issues at all for 2 of us sharing. The bathroom is a nice size with a shower and the sink has a cabinet that you can store your stuff in it. We did have to put our luggage on the floor - no where to unpack but again that wasn't an issue either. We each had space next to our side of the bed (and still able to walk around). The room was very quaint and cute. You can hear the kids upstairs stomping on the floor but it didn't keep us from sleeping. The bed was very comfortable. We had everything needed. They cleaned and changed out the towels daily. The hotel is located very centrally and close to everything. It has a great sitting area outside also. We hit the ground running every day so didn't spend a lot of time there. The A/C would have been my biggest complaint. It was fine during the day - always cold but at night it would cut off even when you had it set very low so not sure if it is controlled in some way or not - I would get hot at night. One other nitpicky thing - the light would come around the shades in the morning so at 5am it would start getting light in the morning. Would be nice to have some side curtains to block that, but again not a big deal I'm usually up early anyway. We never had issues with the front desk - you just text and they will answer you. For those complaining about room size - did you not read the room descriptions? They are very accurate. I would recommend staying here - very cute and quaint and close to everything.

    Above and Beyond

After discovering a leak in our home last summer, we unexpectedly found ourselves needing a last-minute place to stay while waiting for a repair. We were exceptionally fortunate to find ourselves at the Faraway and were welcomed with warmth and kindness despite the last minute circumstances. From the moment we arrived, the level of hospitality exceeded every expectation. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable throughout our stay, anticipating needs before we even had to ask. We stayed in a two-bedroom suite that was spacious, charming and exceptionally quiet. One gesture that especially stood out was the staff arranging a refrigerator and microwave for our room so we could safely prepare meals for a family member with severe food allergies. That level of thoughtfulness and care made an enormous difference to us, particularly during such a stressful time. Several other small details throughout our stay were equally memorable, including a thoughtful bottle of wine delivered to our room. Although the atmosphere of the hotel allowed for plenty of privacy, the staff was always readily available and eager to help whenever needed. What began as a stressful emergency turned into such a positive experience thanks to the incredible team at Faraway!

    An amazing experience

We were scheduled for a late 8pm ferry home and the ferry got canceled at 6pm which was completely out of the blue and unusual. It was a holiday weekend and we were looking for a last-minute hotel. The service was spectacular. They accommodated us above and beyond our expectations. The staff was very kind and very generous. They offered us a complementary drink. Our accommodations is everything we could’ve hoped for and more. Very clean. Atmosphere is amazing. Location is perfect. We can’t wait to come back for a planned visit lol!!!

Not such a great birthday weekend

Our stay was quite disappointing. I booked two standard king rooms, however upon check in we realized that one of the rooms was super tiny, more like petite queen with a king bed in it, it was difficult to move around it. The closet was so tiny my husband had his clothes in the suitcase the whole time. We reported the issue to the front desk to which they said the descriptions and the photos on the hotel website are just models and don't always represent the actual room. It was our daughter's birthday, so I didn't want to spoil the weekend and left the issue alone. In addition to the room situation, the overall service was very mediocre. We chose not to have our room cleaned or bedding changed but asked to freshen up the towels once (there is no place to hang them to dry in the bathroom, it was that tiny!). It took the staff a few hours to do and they never picked up the towels that were not fresh. I also asked for a different hairdryer because the attachment didn't work. It also took a while. I dried my hair, got ready and left. Upon my return I found another hairdryer that didn't have attachments at all. We also found forgotten items under the bed, which means the room wasn't cleaned very well after the previous guest. Both bed and bath linens are not of the quality I would expect at a luxury hotel. One of the sheets on our bed was ripped. The shower head in the shower is not adjustable, so your hair always gets wet. The free bikes were not available one time we wanted to use them. The staff is friendly enough but doesn't offer any recommendations or suggestions. I asked if the restaurant served breakfast, and they simply said No. I would think they could've offered a recommendation of where we could've gotten breakfast instead. I wish I loved our stay at Faraway hotel but I couldn't wait to get back home. The only nice thing about the hotel was the garden.
