Two of us had a very enjoyable stay..
The cottage is charming, very warm and wonderfully situated in old Hastings. Round the corner in George St are great eateries and shops; Hastings Contemporary Gallery is 5 mins walk away, as are the wonderful fishermen’s net huts and museums. Our host was very helpful when we had queries.
It isn’t a very suitable cottage for elderly people, or people with any mobility problems, as the stairs are very steep and winding, and there is no rope or rail to hang on to. There are 2 grips in the walls of the upper staircase, but we found it difficult to carry things up and down both. The cups and glasses are very high up on a shelf in the kitchen if you are short! It would have been useful to have a kitchen stool to stand on to help lift them down.

Original building
The cottage itself offers a unique historical atmosphere, as the structure dates back to the 1700s and has been largely kept in its original form. The interior decor is tasteful and non-invasive, allowing the authentic character and original features of the building to stand out.
The property presented significant comfort issues, particularly given the warm weather. The AGA cooker in the kitchen and the bathroom heating were both left permanently on, making the indoor temperature uncomfortably hot upon arrival. The carpet in the room and on the stairs was also visibly dirty, which added to the overall lack of comfort. Additionally, the surrounding environment posed a challenge: an extractor fan from a restaurant directly across from the house ran continuously, generating noticeable noise and strong, unappealing frying smells that prevented us from opening the windows for ventilation. We were also surprised by the requirement to strip and remove the bed linen ourselves upon departure, which is not something we typically expect from a paid stay. Last negative note: on early morning, from the bathroom window, my daughter spotted a guy sleeping (we hope he was just sleeping) on the pavement. That is clearly not responsibility of the landlord, of course, but it made us feel uncomfortable . While the historic nature of the house is clear, the combination of these factors meant it was ultimately not the right fit for us, and we were eager to check out at the end of our stay.

Really interest and sweet 300 year old cottage in a perfect location
The location is absolutely superb and place has such character. Well stocked kitchen etc. Communications with the host was first class.
We like everything about the property. I would say that it may not suit the less mobile as the staircase is quite snug.
