Such a pleasant stay with great location and owner! Felt like a stay in a Japanese home :)
This felt like we stayed at someone's beautiful house while still feeling very private. Even with the shared bath/shower, you weren't really waiting on anyone that often. Also the ryokan is well kept - the facilities are super clean (and in the bath room, there are plenty of products to use free of charge (even shaving cream and cleansers!). Our last ryokan was rundown so this was a pleasant welcoming. The owner was so lovely - she even gave me another futon mattress because my back isn't great on just one. She would greet us when we got back. The LOCATION was excellent - a 5-7 min walk to Kyoto station where you can pretty much get anywhere (by bus, train, subway or Shinkansen). If you want convenient travel, stay here.
Honestly, even though it was a shared bathroom which I was worried about - it's actually more like living in a house and going to the toilet and bathroom just down the short hall. Clean and private (individual stalls). So not really a negative XD It could be a tiny bit noisy from outside but only from other people walking and talking aloud, not from traffic. Wasn't relly an issue
