    Chaotic hotel, fab glacier

We stayed as a family of four travelling from the UK. This was a real ‘bucket list’ hotel for me, so I’d overlooked the high price and the inconvenience of not being able to book a room until January. Overall, I’m glad we visited but it really does fall short and it’s certainly not luxurious. First the practicalities - located across from 5 glaciers and right on the Ice Field parkway, there are very few alternative accommodations in the area. There is one building which comprises a visitors centre and gift shop on the ground floor, restaurants on the first floor and hotel on floor 3. Parking is on site and you’ll be given a code for the barrier on the right hand side as you approach. Unfortunately rooms are fairly basic and dated. There was no promised concierge to assist with luggage at the car park if we arrived between 4-6pm (we arrived at 5pm). Our Dyson hairdryer didn’t work and staff were unable to locate a replacement, instead giving me an old hairdryer without a styling nozzle. Stairs down to the restaurant resembled a service staircase rather than something guests would be expected to use (stained with drinks and spilled food). The staff are all young, overseas staff working the season - they seem to work really hard but there’s no sense of any senior staff or organisation. The bedroom corridor was chaos with staff/linen trolleys/food waste even at 5pm - which puzzled me because check out was 9.30 and check in 4.30 - what are they doing between those hours if not turning the rooms around for new guests? We ate at the restaurant for dinner and the food was reasonable but lukewarm. Service from waiting staff was very good though. In the morning we had breakfast and it took 40 minutes for an order of a plain croissant to arrive - which is problematic because you’re given an exact breakfast time and an exact check out time, so you don’t have time to wait. We incorporated the skywalk and the glacier trip into our visit - the weather made the skywalk impossible to view from, however the glacier trip was very good and the weather had also cleared by then. Overall this gent like a chaotic, slightly shambolic place to stay and it would be better as just a visitors centre.

    Great view of the glacier

This hotel is very expensive and the overall service should be better. Meet and greet was unorganized. Rooms unavailable upon the check in time of 4pm and over an hour before rooms were ready. Only one employee was terrific and if not for Kyler my review would be less than very good.

    Great Hotel with Wonderful Views

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lodge which is located right next to the athabasca glacier. We are so glad we chose to stay here instead of driving up from banff. We were able to enjoy the full days of visit to the icefield as well as the skywalk. The view of the glacier from the lobby is The lodge has a spacious restaurant with wide variety of items as well as a fine dining facility. There was a coffee machine in the lobby with latte, hot chocolate and expresso options. The rooms were very clean, spacious and well furnished. The staff was very friendly and professional. We would like to give special thanks to Chekina who was helping with check-in. She was courteous, patient and understanding and ensured that we .

    Not worth it.

For $600/nt (or more) I expect a lot from a hotel. Glacier View did not deliver. From first impressions to last, this place was not a luxury experience, or even a convenient one. First, the good: the room was very nice, quiet, with great views and high-end features like Dyson appliances, luxurious bath items, a Nespresso machine, smart TV, and even a set of binoculars. Also, the hotel lobby is gorgeous and comfortable. The staff is friendly and eager, and we loved the daily afternoon reception with cocktails and charcuterie. Now the bad: The parking situation is a pain. The guest entry is not well labeled (looks like a restricted area you’re not supposed to be in, and in fact it is: hotel guests share a lot with the tour buses, and have to walk past all the tour bus lanes, gift shop, and jam-packed visitor center to get to their rooms). The hotel also shares an elevator with the visitor center, and (of course) all the restaurants. In fact, apart from your own room’s restroom, the only toilet in the building is shared with hundreds of bus tour patrons. But the madness isn’t limited to the tour areas. During our stay, The hotel corridors were always full of trash, laundry, and housekeeping carts. Always. And it seemed like every time we walked by the front desk, some guest was having an issue. Dining was disappointing, too. Altitude restaurant was the only choice we had during our 2-day stay, because the Starbucks and the other cafe were either closed or slammed with people. Worse, Altitude was (at best) inconsistent with offerings and quality. The breakfast buffet was randomly closed, and several menu items (on the already short list) were unavailable. The dishes we got were ok, not great. Despite the restaurant proximity, there is no room service. The main selling point of the place, of course, is its proximity to the glacier tour. And that’s great. But it’s really only useful once, and the rest of the time it’s actually an obstacle, navigating around crowds. If I had to do it again, I’d drive from Jasper or another quieter Icefield Pkwy hotel.
