Unreturned deposit and payments requests outside of Booking.com
Unfortunately, our experience with this apartment was disappointing, both during the stay and afterwards. The biggest issue with the apartment itself was the air conditioning. Every night, the AC unit in the bedroom would freeze over, which repeatedly disrupted our sleep and kept us awake during the night. In Puerto Rico, reliable air conditioning is obviously pretty important, so having this happen every night significantly affected the comfort of our stay. There were also serious issues with the payment and deposit process. After booking through Booking.com, we were contacted directly by the property via WhatsApp and told that our payment had not processed correctly. We then provided payment details directly to the property via WhatsApp, at their request. When they processed the payment, they also took an additional $50 deposit that was not included in the price shown on our Booking.com reservation. We were told this would be refunded after our stay. We were advised that the refund could take up to 15 days. We contacted them a couple of days before the refund window, and got no response. On the 15th day, with no refund received, I contacted the property again. Rather than confirming that the refund had already been processed, I was told they would need to pass it to their refund department to try to get it started. This was concerning, as it appears the refund had not actually been initiated during the previous 15 days. I have now had to contact Booking.com directly, and they have opened a case regarding the outstanding $50. I also noticed after our stay that our Booking.com reservation shows as Cancelled, despite the fact that we stayed at the property and paid for the accommodation. The $50 itself is not a large amount, but guests should not have to provide payment details out of system, repeatedly chase a promised refund or involve Booking.com to get a deposit returned.
