A pleasant location, but the accommodation was misrepresented, poorly maintained and extremely poor
Schilde is a very pleasant and affluent area with attractive surroundings. However, it is a relatively quiet small town, not particularly close to major attractions and with limited options for eating and drinking. We therefore spent most of our time in Brasschaat, another nearby town that offered more choice.
Our 10-night stay at the Golf Apartments in Schilde, Belgium, was extremely disappointing. The accommodation we received was completely different from what we believed we had booked. The photographs on Booking.com did not accurately represent the accommodation provided. The actual Golf Apartments did not appear to be shown in the listing, while the photographs of the main house also bore little resemblance to where we eventually stayed. We were also unaware that the property was being advertised for sale. The host insisted that we had booked the Golf Apartments, which was correct. However, the accommodation was extremely basic, particularly considering the price of almost €2,000. When we asked to move to the main house, we were told that this would cost an additional €1,200. We reluctantly agreed and paid this amount in cash at the end of our stay. Unfortunately, moving into the main house offered very little improvement, particularly for two of our four guests. On the first floor, there were two bedrooms with double beds and a shared bathroom. Off this bathroom was a non-functioning steam room and a shower that offered no privacy. The other two guests had to access the loft through the shared bathroom. The loft also offered no privacy and included an open bathroom and toilet with extremely limited headroom, making it barely practical for an adult. There was no clothes storage, so we had to live out of our suitcases throughout our stay. After one week, we asked for the bedding to be changed. We were met with a shrug of the shoulders and told that we should have paid the additional money sooner. The bedding was never changed during our stay. The internet connection was extremely poor, as was the mobile signal. Guests should not expect to browse the internet reliably, contact family and friends or keep up with emails. We ultimately left one day earlier than planned. As the owner of a small business myself, I take no pleasure in criticising another business.
