Das Zimmer, die Lage im Grünen ist sensationell. So besonders.

The staff was exceptional. Food was great for Japanese Onsen food. They had a different menu for each night of your st
The surrounding property was exceptional-a walking path through the forest with streams and ponds and views.
Very rustic. Doors and bathroom facilities were old and difficult to use.

The indoor and outdoor onsens were lovely. The food was fantastic each day. Our room was spacious and clean with a lovely view of the woods and mountains. And the staff was incredible. Chi was our server each morning and evening and she alone made our stay extra special. She was extremely kind and friendly, I nearly teared up saying goodbye! Highly recommend staying here. The cost is 1000% worth it.
Literally nothing, everything was perfect.

Nestled a five minute walk from the Gora train station is a ryokan rooted in nostalgia and tradition. As I crossed over the tracks I turned over my shoulder to gaze upon the ash covered volcano above the town and a line of fresh steam rising from the ash. Stepping inside the ryokan’s wood framed building brings you into what used to be someone’s home, someone from opulent society. My family and I were treated like royalty during our stay, as if I was the home’s master returning from a long absence away. I enjoyed walking the property’s private nature garden. The stone path and soothing sounds of trickling water in the brooks and ponds combining with the fragrant flowers in the mountain breeze prepared the mind for the evening feast ahead. The free standing stone art that stood more than my lifetime in the garden spoke a poignant message to me. Like a patina that cannot be manufactured the lichen and moss covered stones stacked in one alignment of thin stones sandwiched between thick ones topped by more heavy stones spoke of “balance” , yes balance, like one rock off-center could tip the whole sculpture. Did I mention feast? Feast might be an understatement, referring to in japanese the polite utterance “it was a feast” after meals, the phrase is quite literal here. My family ate ten course meal, that was wholesome and healthy, what the food trend calls clean eating. The artisan chef put thought into the nutritional value of each item, every essential vitamin and mineral that can be mined biologically from the earth and sea presented in “balance” for us to recharge ourselves. Three different soups, sashimi, seaweed, variety of raddish, variety of mushrooms, mountain yam, wagyu beef, fish cooked with every bone removed, fruit, custard. It was so much food served that it would have been wrong not to eat what the body needs for healing benefits. Truthfully, I was full at the appetizers. The onsen soaks were just as healing as the meals.
