    The best of the best

We’ve stayed at the Gruene River Hotel & Retreat 3 years in a row for our annual summer weekend river trip. Staying at this hotel is what we look forward the most. The staff consistently exhibits exemplary hospitality and truly work to make you feel welcome. They are the heart and soul of this property. The rooms are clean and creatively decorated. We like the more spacious Tinseltown and Shady Lady rooms. The breakfast spread is outstanding. Everything is made from scratch and the menu changes daily. It’s served 8:30-9:30 only, you do not want to miss this! Pro Tip: order chef-prepared lunch boxes to take down to the river with you. They’re delicious and convenient and make it so your day on the river has no interruptions for lunchtime. The direct river access is an excellent location that provides a semi-private shaded area of water right next to all the action. Be prepared for a very steep walk of stairs but it’s worth it!
