    Dirt cheap digs

This was a self-check in which was smooth. The room was a ground floor and front facing which meant it was very accessible coming and going. It was also secure being elavated slightly above the small parking area out front and iirc also had some security measures over the window. There was an electric gate which required a code to access the courtyard running up the side of the property. The TV worked and the shower worked and was hot. The location was equidistant between the city centre and the main railway station - about a fifteen minute walk either way allowing for traffic which is unbearable in this city - just to give you the heads up! The host was sound.

Several things detract from this being pricier or more highly rated. 1. NOISE - It is located on a busy one way street so there's noise associated with intensely moving traffic. Also, there's noise associated with people coming and going through the heavy metal gate, doors and stairs which are all in close proximity given itss a ground floor front room. 2. GRUBBY - It wasn't the cleanest looking room - a bit tired looking, you could say. The shower leaked and some of the plugs looked suspect. The bed could've been obtained from the local tip but I've seen worse. The communal areas looked well kept but stepping out onto the street, the city also looked pretty grubby - lots of grafitti and abandoned buildings (including one next door). The streets weren't so much tree lined boulevards but more overgrown streets composed of unkempt bushes and shrubs. The term 'concrete jungle' really fit this neighbourhood but to be honest, it softened the edgyness of the mass of traffic everywhere. It was the worst city I've visited to date for walking. 3. MOSQUITOS.
