  Extremely Disappointing Experience in Porto

  We recently booked an apartment in Porto through Booking.com for a three-night stay, and unfortunately, our experience was far from acceptable. On the day of our arrival, exactly 20 minutes before we were due to check in (around 16:00-17:00) , we received a phone call from the property management informing us that the apartment was not ready. Instead, they offered us a temporary apartment for one night, which was a complete downgrade. The substitute accommodation had only one bed and an old sofa bed, while our original booking was specifically for two double beds and a sofa, as we were traveling with our two young children. When I explained our situation and expressed my frustration, they simply offered to cancel our reservation. As a family of four arriving in a new city with no other options, this was incredibly disheartening. We had nowhere to stay and had no choice but to accept their offer. When we finally arrived at the temporary apartment, the floors were dirty, and there was still garbage left by the previous guests. We were fortunate to encounter the cleaning staff in the hallway, who eventually disposed of the trash, but the situation was less than ideal. The next day, around 12:30 PM, we received a message that our originally booked apartment was ready, but we were already quite far from the city, enjoying our time at the ocean. I informed them we could arrive later in the afternoon, around 5-6 PM. To our surprise, they insisted we move immediately, despite the fact that we had not even completed our booking in the first place and were forced to move due to their error and they even said to move our personal items by themselves (!!!) we then had to take a taxi and go to the apartment we had originally booked but this took us many hours and in the end we lost more than half day of our 2 and half days trip.

  Fantastic place to stay to be in the middle of a lively area and within easy walking distance of places of interest and

  Great location near the river, Dom luis bridge and easy access to local area. Tram stop within a few minutes walk to take you to the coast. Lots of restaurants and bars on the doorstep. Live entertainment along the river side every day. Walk through the tunnel to get to the bridge and within a few minutes you are in Vila nova de Gaia. The apartment has everything needed for a short stay.

  Some noise which is to be expected from the central location and being in a shared block. Be prepared to walk up hills so not suitable if mobility is an issue.
