Lovely cottage, let down by the cleanliness
The cottage was charmingly situated, offering convenient access to local shops, pubs, and restaurants. The cottage was cosy and we did enjoy our stay. Hot water was instant and the heating worked fine, beds were comfy and the area was reasonably quiet to say it is so close to the town.
While the rooms were well-proportioned and the rear parking facility was advantageous, the experience was significantly impacted by the lack of consideration from other guests, whose vehicles obstructed our view, restricted natural light, and caused persistent noise disturbances near our living area through the day Regarding maintenance and hygiene, Spring Cottage requires a comprehensive deep clean. We observed significant dust and debris on the skirting boards, pervasive cobwebs throughout the property, and neglected conditions beneath the fireplace. Furthermore, the kitchenware was found to be soiled, requiring us to sanitize items before use, and several pieces were damaged to the point of being unusable. Additional concerns include stained curtains in the bedroom and unsanitary conditions within the window paneling, which appears not to have been maintained since installation. While the rear bedroom featured a modern window, its proximity to the drainage system resulted in audible noise that hindered our sleep. Although the provided bedding and towels were clean, the 4:00 p.m. check-in time seems disproportionate given the apparent lack of thorough cleaning between occupancies. Consequently, the premium cost of the stay does not appear to reflect the level of property maintenance provided. Based on an analysis of previous reviews for this property and other Host & Stay listings, it appears that concerns regarding cleanliness have persisted despite consistent guest feedback. The location was super. Didn’t need to drive to sight see Whitby it was all within walking distance.
