Beautiful and Practical but skip Breakfast!

The room was aesthetically beautiful and very comfortable, and the hotel is in a perfect quiet but central location. Also, great job by housekeeping as it was spotless! Both gentlemen working on reception were lovely and very helpful - an asset to HdV. My boiled eggs at breakfast were cooked perfectly.

I have an allergy to strawberries. I also happen to be the allergy reaction lead for my radiology department, and so I understand allergies very well. On arrival at breakfast, I was asked if I had any allergies and I mentioned strawberries. The buffet was mentioned, but I said I only planned on having boiled eggs which come direct from the kitchen (as time was against me). I was then given an allergy guide which I only looked at briefly as I was only having the one item. Another senior waitress came up to me again with the guide to look at again. I thought I'd somehow missed signing a disclaimer. I hadn't. She just clearly felt I hadn't looked at it long enough even though I explained I was only getting the one item which comes direct from kitchen, and is unlikely to have strawberries (boiled eggs)! Her attitude towards me was very patronising and it slowed down further what I was hoping to be a speedy breakfast, as I was made to look at it all over again! Also £24 is very expensive even given the location (regardless of the fact I couldn't use the buffet as I would have to ask items to be bought out from the back instead which is understandable, but not practical for me that day because of the time constraints I had). The carpets in the corridor also looked a little worn in many places.
