The location, the shower, the bed.
Let me be clear: if you have a passion for insects and a deep personal commitment to sweating, this apartment delivers on both fronts with impressive consistency. The location is lovely, lush, green, close to water. Nature lovers will feel very at home. Very at home. As in, nature will also be at home. Inside. With you. We were joined by approximately one million tiny ants (organised, committed, everywhere), a couple of cockroaches (I formed a complex relationship with one; it did not end well for our friendship, a healthy spider population, and one wasp who made a dramatic entrance the moment we cracked a window in desperation for air. Speaking of air: two of the three bedrooms have no AC, no fans, and no ventilation of any kind. The windows have no netting, so opening them is essentially an open casting call for whatever is flying past. We booked three bedrooms. We slept in one — the single room with AC — all three of us, sardine-style, clinging to the one unit like it was a life raft. My bedroom lights were operating at roughly 2% brightness. Romantic, if that's your thing. Less ideal when you're trying to identify which insect just landed on you. The electrician was promised. The electrician did not come. The host was genuinely apologetic and promised fans in the next supply run and window netting by end of month. So: hopeful signs for future guests.
