Appeared to be Black Mold in the bathroom-- no refund or remedy.
Nothing
Our stay at Irundo Downtown Apartments was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, we were immediately concerned by the poor condition of the building, but we hoped that the apartment itself would be better. Unfortunately, when we entered our room, we discovered a significant amount of what appeared to be black mold in the bathroom above the shower. We contacted the host immediately to report the issue. Rather than addressing it, they told us they would get back to us and then failed to follow up. We did not hear from them again until we reached out ourselves several days later. Given the timing, we were left with the impression that the host delayed responding until our scheduled stay had technically ended, making it more difficult for us to obtain a refund or other remedy through Booking.com. We also spent a significant amount of time on the phone with Booking.com attempting to resolve the situation and reach the host. Ultimately, Booking.com told us there was nothing further they could do. We were even told that our remaining option would be to pursue the matter through the courts in the jurisdiction where the apartment is located. Based on our experience, I would strongly caution others against staying at Irundo Downtown Apartments. I was also extremely disappointed with Booking.com's handling of the situation. Discovering apparent mold in an accommodation is a serious issue, and neither the property nor Booking.com provided a meaningful or timely resolution, forcing us to book a hotel nearby that same night.
