    Good Communication, But Property Needs Significant Upkeep

    It wasn’t far from Casalinga where we had attended a event.

    The hosts were communicative and provided clear instructions for our late-night check-in, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the property itself was disappointing. We arrived after midnight on a very cold Johannesburg night and discovered there was no hot water because the geyser was switched off. After a long journey, not being able to take a hot shower was extremely frustrating. Although the hosts later explained there had been a system change, this should have been communicated before our arrival. The apartment appears significantly more worn than the photos suggest. The shower had visible grime and staining around the tile edges, and the overall cleanliness did not meet expectations. Some of the bathroom towels looked old, discoloured, and worn, while the bathroom mat appeared aged and unclean. These details made the space feel poorly maintained. The curtains, furnishings, and general finishes also looked dated and tired. The bed was uncomfortable and uneven, which resulted in a poor night’s sleep. The kitchen presentation was untidy, with pantry items stored in opened packaging rather than neatly organised, making the apartment feel neglected rather than welcoming. While the hosts were responsive, the property requires attention to cleanliness, maintenance, and overall upkeep. Guests looking for a modern, well-maintained apartment should be aware that the current condition does not fully match the impression created by the listing photos. Overall, the accommodation did not meet our expectations.
