Wonderful stay, with a lovely host, a thoughtful apple tart, comfortable beds and spotless bathrooms
We had a wonderful stay at Stephen’s place. He was incredibly kind, welcoming and helpful, especially when our travel plans changed unexpectedly. A lovely little apple tart was waiting for us when we arrived, which was such a thoughtful touch. The accommodation was perfect: very comfortable beds, spotless bathrooms and everything was clean and well prepared. Stephen’s kindness and hospitality really made the difference. We highly recommend this place and would happily come back!

Very disappointing experience
The apartment itself is very nice, spacious and comfortable.
Unfortunately, the cleanliness could be improved, as there was quite a bit of dust and we also found more spiders than one would reasonably expect. In addition, some of the blankets had burn marks, and very few towels were provided. However, the main issue was the host’s attitude and the number of rules imposed on guests. We were required to remove our shoes inside the apartment and, more unusually, to leave the keys behind every time we went out. Unfortunately, the host also has direct access to the apartment via an internal staircase, which further contributed to an uncomfortable feeling of being monitored and having limited privacy during the stay. What bothered us most was the insistence at checkout that we clean and tidy the apartment. Of course, guests should always behave respectfully and leave a property in a reasonable condition, but there is a clear difference between basic courtesy and expecting paying guests to clean and arrange the accommodation as though cleaning were not already included in the price. In our case, the only thing left in the sink was some used dishes, yet the host specifically complained that we had not washed them. This raises a rather concerning question: if guests are expected to wash the dishes themselves before leaving, to what extent can the next guests be confident that kitchenware has actually been cleaned to an appropriate standard rather than simply being left to the care and common sense of the previous occupants? Given the dust and other cleanliness issues we encountered, this practice did not inspire confidence. In our view, relying on departing guests to perform part of the cleaning for the next occupants is not an appropriate substitute for the host ensuring that the accommodation, including the kitchen and its equipment, is properly checked and cleaned between stays. For a paid accommodation, this struck us as an irresponsible and highly questionable practice.
