  Small, modern hotel with excellent facilities - ideal if you don’t like busy, noisy city centres.

  We were very happy with the location - yes, it is a short ride into the city, but there is plenty of reasonably-priced parking close to the walls in the city. Or a taxi/bus would be fine too. The hotel itself has plenty of free parking - no trouble finding a space. The hotel is small, just 15 rooms, but this suited us perfectly being elderly, and wanting a quieter place to stay. We found the cafeteria, and restaurant very good, and ate there throughout our stay - it was possible to have a lighter meal from the cafeteria menu or a full meal from the restaurant à la carte menu. It is also possible to have a drink or eat outside - at the front of the cafeteria and in the gardens at the rear. The rooms are spacious and very clean, with large comfy beds, and well-equipped - we particularly appreciated the mini-fridge and the coffee machine. My dog was very happy - there is a good walk about 250 yards away and it was easy to pop out with her for toilet breaks - grassy verges along both sides of the road. She was allowed in some of the public areas on a lead - e.g. when we had coffee. It was possible to leave her in the room or in the car whilst we had a meal in the restaurant - although I saw other guests taking their pets with them when they went in to have a meal. Dogs were expected to be on leads as they moved around the hotel - a number of guests were business travellers so probably wouldn’t appreciate dogs off the lead whilst they were relaxing after work. The hotel is certainly a good one for dog owners, and worth the extra per night I paid to have her with me. We found the staff very friendly and courteous - they were very understanding of our limited Spanish! The receptionist spoke some English and one of the waiters spoke good English, so we didn’t struggle vis-a-vis language as much as we feared! We would certainly stay there again, and have already recommended the hotel to friends and relatives thinking of visiting Lugo.

  Overall, we had an enjoyable stay, and felt the hotel was a very comfortable base from which to explore Lugo. We had no complaints but wondered if it would be possible to fit a full length mirror somewhere in the room? There is a large mirror in the bathroom, but over the basin so only the top half of you can be viewed. One of our rooms was very short of coat hangers - only two provided. Perhaps room service could check this before guests arrive? Really, though, these were only very small points and didn’t detract from our experience at La Finca in any way.
