SUPER!!!

Characterful villa near Lake Como
We had a fantastic stay at this villa, which is both beautiful and extremely practical, with lots of amenities. It is in a good location for exploring Lake Como, and we had a brilliant day out there, even driving further north to hire a boat. We were two families of four, and our children made extensive use of the games area, pool and jacuzzi. On our second day another family arrived, but this really wasn’t a problem at all. We barely crossed paths afterwards, everyone was respectful, and it didn’t affect our privacy. The terrace is beautiful, with a huge solid wooden table, and the pool is large and warm. The table tennis and darts were also a big hit with everyone. The owners clearly care a great deal about the property and go above and beyond to keep everything running smoothly. The owner even played table tennis with our son for a while, which was a really lovely touch. We also had a day of very heavy rain, and he came to check that everything was all right and that there were no issues around the property. The kitchen is well equipped, and I particularly enjoyed learning to make coffee the proper Italian way! The two main bedrooms were large and comfortable, and both bathrooms and showers worked perfectly. I had read in previous reviews that one of the showers had not been working, but this has clearly been fixed as we had no problems at all. The Wi-Fi is a little slow, and the entertainment set-up is quite old-fashioned, but for us this actually added to the vintage charm of the villa. The lady owner took plenty of time to recommend restaurants, answer all our questions and show us how everything worked. There is also a washing machine on the property — you just need to press the buttons quite firmly, but it works perfectly!
The only reasons I gave a 9 rather than a 10 were two points that I think could be made clearer in the description. Firstly, the owners live on the property. This didn’t cause us any problems at all, but I don’t remember this being made particularly clear before booking. There is also a camera overlooking the terrace. I’m sure this is simply for security and to keep an eye on the property, but I personally would have appreciated being told about it in advance. Secondly, I booked the villa for eight people — four adults and four children — and the listing stated that it could accommodate up to nine. The first bedroom has a double bed, the second has a double bed and a single bed, and the third has bunk beds. The eighth sleeping space was a sofa bed in the living room. Although the different types of beds were listed, I hadn’t realised that one of the sleeping spaces would be in the living area. None of our teenagers or children particularly wanted to share a room with their parents, so this made the sleeping arrangements slightly more complicated. We absolutely made it work, but for a property at this price point I think the room layout could be explained a little more clearly. Overall, though, we had a wonderful stay and really enjoyed the villa, the pool and the outdoor space. It is a beautiful, characterful property and we came away with some very happy memories.
