A Pleasant Island Stay, Though Not Quite an Upper-End Four-Star Experience, More Middle-Scale

Lomani is a pleasant, middle-range four-star resort in a beautiful setting. The individual villas, each with a private garden, offer space and comfort, although the gardens themselves provide limited privacy.

My recommendation to management: invest less in procedures that make guests feel monitored and more in staffing, maintenance and the small, personal gestures that make them feel welcome. Even for a middle-range four-star resort, anticipating guests’ needs from time to time - rather than always waiting to be asked - would make a noticeable difference. On an island, the real luxury is being able to stop organising everything yourself and occasionally finding that someone has thought of what you might need before you do.

A Pleasant Island Stay, Though Not Quite an Upper-End Four-Star Experience, More Middle-Scale

Lomani is a pleasant, middle-range four-star resort in a beautiful setting. The individual villas, each with a private garden, offer space and comfort, although the gardens themselves provide limited privacy A lovely touch is the evening turndown service, with the room thoughtfully prepared for sleep. These small gestures make a difference and show what the resort can do well.

The accommodation is generally clean, but some details need attention, from a toilet-roll holder practically coming off the wall to stray hairs left in the bathroom. Small things, perhaps, but details matter. The beach is not the resort’s strongest feature either. The tides affect the swimming experience, and seaweed washing ashore can make the beach less appealing than one might expect from a tropical island resort, at least in early October. The main issue is the apparent understaffing. The staff are genuinely lovely, but orders and requests are often forgotten. Multitasking may look efficient on a spreadsheet, but sometimes it is simply cost-cutting at the expense of the guest experience. The à la carte breakfast is a more civilised alternative to a buffet, although the choices are limited and extra portions are not particularly generous. Everything seems rather carefully measured, including the avocado on the side. A little more generosity, which would hardly break the bank, would certainly enhance the experience. Some operational procedures also feel unnecessarily bureaucratic, from recording bicycle collection and return times to the 5 p.m. deadline for kayaks and paddleboards, apparently for safety reasons, despite sunset being around 6 p.m. The activity centre closes at 5 p.m. too, limiting the opportunity to enjoy these facilities during the cooler hours of the late afternoon - or to experience the sunset from a kayak. Room changes for different bookings could also be handled more smoothly, without leaving guests to organise their own logistics during a holiday. Lomani has the ingredients for a lovely island stay: comfortable accommodation, a beautiful setting and genuinely kind people. However, inconsistent service, limited attention to detail and an overly procedural approach keep it firmly in the middle range rather than at the upper end of four-star hospitality. Everything feels rather standardised, with little effort to personalise services.
