Nice surroundings, bad accommodation, misinformation and reception/management customer service

The Castle itself is beautiful, with lovely grounds and a lot of character. The room decor and bedding were also very nice. Some of the dining staff were also lovely.

Unfortunately, the stay fell well short of what we expected. We booked a room at Lough Rynn Castle but were taken to accommodation outside the Castle, something that was not made sufficiently clear in our Booking.com booking, either on the direct booking page or in the policies. I have since noticed that this issue has also been raised in a number of reviews on this and other platforms. We only realised this when the porter began taking us outside. The accommodation required navigating limestone stairs and had no lift, which was particularly problematic for one member of our party who has had a double knee replacement. The check-in experience was disappointing. Although the room was technically ready shortly after 4pm, when I checked beforehand I was told they would “do their best” rather than being given confirmation, which added to the uncertainty. The room itself was nicely decorated and did not have an unpleasant smell. However, the building it was in had a strong, unpleasant smell. The bathroom was also tired and poorly maintained, with fittings having fallen off and chips to the mirror. More concerning was the overall handling of the situation and the suggestion that we were at fault for not raising the mobility issues sooner. I never thought I would need to ask for a room in the hotel I had booked, or to confirm the location of the room, particularly when we were told that the rooms had been checked in advance. I raised the concerns within a few hours of check-in, but was still told that I should have raised them sooner. Guests should not have to identify and report problems that should have been addressed before arrival, particularly when the accommodation description was unclear and the bathroom was not properly maintained. The explanation that “Lough Rynn Castle” refers to the entire estate does not address the fact that, as guests, we reasonably understood that we were booking accommodation in the Castle.

It was convenient for wedding attended.

Over priced for one night in a very standard 3 bed semi. Standard facilities, no towels, cheap soap. Expected more for 500e.

Nice hotel, nice staff, but the room facilities were very poor

The grounds, and the overall ambiance of the hotel. The evening meal and breakfast. The staff.

Had to wait until 4:00 PM to get access to room. The floor creaked undefoot. The complimentary tea & coffee was stored in a press under the tv. The wardrobe was too high. The hangars in the wardrobe were too high for access and could not be detached from the rail to hang clothers. The information booklet was falling apart and bound with one stud the other stud was missing. A small stubby pencil was left for writing. It was very difficult to read anything on the left hand side of the information pages. The writing table and the bedside tables with stained and chipped. The sink in the bathroom was too small and chipped. I could not fit the kettle under the cold tap and had to carry glasses of water from the bathroom to the TV press to fill the kettle. The hot wat tap was loose. The room had a bathtub which was difficult to step in and out of. The bar staff were not trained to make cocktails and when asked for a glass of Redbreast 12 year old whiskey had to wait for 10 minutes until a bottle was found.
