Stark and not welcoming
The design and interior is well appointed.
Guests with reservations but not yet checked in are not allowed into the property or to use the outside sitting areas until late afternoon check in time. Security asks registered guests to return to their rooms before 10:00 PM and closes off and LOCKS the common lounge area, sitting areas, outdoor deck and gathering spaces. These areas remain inaccessible in the morning before 8:00 AM. There is no coffee or refreshments in the lobby for guests in the morning. For early risers or those wanting to leave the hotel room for a bit -- there is no place inside the property to relax, read, unwind or have a me space between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM. We took an early morning stroll along the river and bamboo trees and returned wanting to sit outdoor on the spacious deck - but it was closed off with padlocks - the only option is to return to the room. There is an onsen surcharge: and there is separate medium size men and women's onsen to use - they do offer private onsens for a significant fee. They could have arranged these differently with multiple temperatures pools each for men and women. Chlorine is added to the onsen's pools which is noticeable and your skin smells of chlorine after using. The property is well designed and well appointed but they want you to JUST LOOK and not use.

Perfect mid-way rest stop for our Japan trip
Beautiful property with koi pond and gardens, hot spring baths in our rooms, private Onsen included, comfy beds and futons, amazing traditional meals, excellent customer service from the same staff member (thanks Miyuki) from check-in to check-out, a nice stroll to town and the bamboo forest walk
