Great Location, Noisy Nights
We loved the location of Maya Boutique Hotel, right in the heart of the Old Quarter. Everything was within walking distance, making it easy to explore the area without having to walk far. The room and bathroom were clean and well maintained. Breakfast was also delicious! Although the selection wasn’t huge, the pancakes were absolutely amazing and definitely a highlight of our stay.
There were a few things we didn’t enjoy as much during our stay. The elevator only starts on the first floor, meaning you have to use the stairs to get to the ground floor. Although the staff helped us with our luggage, this was inconvenient, especially because you had to be very careful not to hit your head on the low ceiling. Another major downside was the noise from outside. Even with our expensive earplugs, which normally block out a lot of noise, we could hear people shouting, horns honking, and other street noise throughout the night. Unfortunately, this resulted in several poor nights of sleep. The room itself was also very small. Finally, we were disappointed by the way the hotel handled feedback at checkout. When asked to rate our stay, we honestly said that we would give it a 7 out of 10. The staff then asked us to add three extra points to our Booking.com review, effectively turning our rating into a 10. We made it clear that we were not going to give a dishonest review, but we found the request quite inappropriate. In fact, this experience made us lower our rating from a 7 to a 6. We believe reviews should reflect guests’ genuine experiences, and pressuring guests to give a perfect score can make a hotel appear better on Booking.com than it actually is.
