Good location and dog friendly but dated and tired.
The free parking, dog friendly (the grounds were especially good for dogs), lovely to see the older parts of the hotel (the historic woodwork etc), the size of the room, fridge and kettle in room, slippers and dressing gowns, complimentary toiletries, tea, etc. Reception staff friendly and professional.
The bathroom was a little grubby with a big crack in the sink and a tatty bath panel. Bath handles were mouldy underneath, extractor vent full of dust, dull and dirty sink and bath taps, just generally run down, tired and dated. As was the main room. Torn voile net, not as wide as the window. Window handle wouldn't fully close. Fridge light flashed on and off continuously (glass door) so had to cover with a coat overnight. Sofabed and ottoman were grubby with marks and stains. Telephone wire wouldn't stay in handset. Had to hold it in to call reception to ask a question about the heating as room was cold on arrival. Not the cheapest accommodation and felt was paying for better quality than experienced sadly.

It was pleasant, nice location etc, staff were professional and lovely.
Downstairs is great, the rooms, the bar, the staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and ran very well and professional, good fresh produce. Staff great. The bedroom was clean, Bed was ok...But was expecting a much better room than what I got, the room was dated and little things like one net in a large window that didn't let it down. It just felt tired and dark and in need of an upgrade to give it a cosier feel. TV could be bigger in such a large room.
Where I was located was right by the entrance to the floor door, so the banging on the door till late and then started early wasn't the best place for a good sleep. The rooms don't reflect the standard of reception and lounges etc, but not sure if this is part of a planned upgrade.

The front of the hotel looks amazing the reception area was nice the foyer was luxurious.
The rooms have been neglected tiles falling off the wall in the bathroom soap scum around the taps dusty damage to the bath panel. Bed was absolutely solid my wife suffers from fibromyalgia and she couldn't stay any longer so we left after one night I never slept well woke up with sore back, hips and legs we couldn't relax dirty carpets. Overall totally run down would rather have people come in and trick them into thinking it's a nice hotel I will not be returning to your establishment utterly disgusting.
