  Great Location but dirty kitchen

  First the very good: You cannot beat the location. Heart of the redwoods and only 1/2 a mile away from the Stephens Grove Loop Trail. The other trails are just up the road. It’s within walking distance to a convenience store/gas station, a coffee shed, and a family restaurant and a fancier diner. The very cute older ‘grandma’ cottages are quiet with not much noise from the main road. We rented cottage #6 for 4 days which is at the back of the resort and has a back deck overlooking the forest. The bed was very comfortable, although the antique chairs were more for looks. We were worried that the living room couch wouldn’t hold us as it creaked and bowed. For comfort we sat on pillows. The bad you have to accept with older cottages is there is very few free plug outlets. We had to stagger times to keep all those ‘essential’ modern devices charged. Also, the water pressure is lousy. If you take a shower you can forget about doing dishes in the sink. Getting the correct shower temperature takes a while as it goes from scalding to ice after 30 seconds of adjusting. The TV has a number of local stations as well as several streaming networks (with your sign on) They have two machines for laundry at $3.00 a load at the very far end of the resort. Although I don't recommend using them as the washer smelled of mold and the dryer needed cleaning. Now the very bad: We found the condition of the kitchen and bathroom very dirty to the point of us having to clean up when we checked in. There are multiple signs saying you are responsible for dishes as there is no dishwasher. I guess that means we were at the mercy of the last person who was here, and their idea of clean was lacking. That didn’t explain why the floor needed mopping so badly. Also, there were multiple mold spots in the shower area. For what is being charged I thought there would be a minimum level of clean. When we checked in the smell of bug spray was very strong. I would have thought they would have aired out the cabin after spraying.

  Nicely situated in the middle of the redwoods, cabin set up was good for multiple family members.

  Great news lace in Redwoods .

  Very clean room, just needs done updating. WiFi was awful. The first night was good and then it just disappeared for the next two days. Office staff not available all day. The property lights shine into our cabin do was a bit much. We would stay again though.

  This property has a charming sign outside and the cottages look adorable under the giant redwoods. I’m sure they were really nice accommodations 100 years ago, but quite frankly that room was one of the worst I’ve stayed in for a long time, and at the same rate as really really nice rooms at nearby properties in Scotia and Benbow that I also stayed in this week. Low quality bed linens & towels. The carpet seems filthy. I couldn’t bring myself to use the coffee maker. The door has glass window panes, which just made it feel really unsafe as it is directly accessible by the very busy highway, and I saw every truck and cars headlights passing all night long. That being said the lady who checked me in was super nice and it’s a great location… (A.k.a. the only option in Miranda, which is a cute little town on the Avenue.) But they either need to invest a lot more in their property to bring it up to that level of lodging cost or lower their rates.
