Nice traditional onsen experience, dated facilities.
We enjoyed the private onsen and gender separate onsen baths. The meals provided were good, traditional Japanese meal. The property provided transportation from the nearest subway stations for arrival and departure for no extra cost. The staff were superb, very kind and handled any request needed. We were able to easily book a 45 minute private onsen experience for my partner and I to enjoy together. We both used the separate gender baths as well and they were enjoyable.
The property is dated. We understand we came for a traditional Japanese experience, the bathroom in our room was very old and the bathtub was missing tile and didn’t look appealing enough to use for a soak. You do sleep on a futon on the floor, which if you have any back problems will not be ideal.

We are disappointed to leave a less-than-favorable review for this ryokan, but we feel it is important to share our experience to help future guests make an informed decision. On a positive note, most of the staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is quite beautiful, nestled in the foothills with several temples nearby. Unfortunately, beyond these positives, our experience fell well short of what we expected, particularly given the price of our stay.
Our room was extremely dated and appeared not to have been renovated in decades. The wallpaper was peeling, the fibers on the traditional rice-paper walls were coming loose, and stains were visible on many surfaces. The bathroom and washroom were also in poor condition and had such an unpleasant odor that neither my wife nor I felt comfortable using them. Most concerning was a persistent smell throughout the room, reminiscent of old hay and possibly mold, that was so strong it made sleeping difficult. The onsen facilities were equally disappointing. Both the men’s and women’s baths were quite small and appeared to have dark-colored mold or similar buildup in the corners. The men’s bath, in particular, was so small that it could comfortably accommodate only two people at a time. Given that the onsen is supposed to be a central part of the ryokan experience, the condition and size of these facilities were especially disappointing. We were also surprised by the approach to drinking water. The tap water in our room was not considered drinkable, and only two small bottles of water were provided. When we asked for more, the front desk informed us that we would need to pay extra and directed us to the vending machines outside. This felt unreasonable given the price of our stay, particularly at a property where guests are encouraged to soak in hot baths and naturally need to stay hydrated. Dinner was a more unique experience, served at a separate location across a bridge near the river. While the setting was memorable, getting there required taking a shuttle bus with other guests each evening. This arrangement felt inconvenient, as everyone had to wait for the group to assemble before departing. Overall, our stay was not without its positives, but the condition of the rooms, bathrooms, and onsen facilities made it difficult to justify the price.
