Spacious holiday rental that could do with maintenance attention and better facilities
Mr Blue Sky is typical holiday accommodation located on a residential road high above St Ives' bay areas. It's very spacious, and has two good-sized bedrooms. There are two sofas in the sitting room, and an excellent TV which has all the players ready to use - Netflix, Amazon Prime, iPlayer, 4player etc, as well as live TV. The kitchen has a washing machine and dishwasher, and there is a dedicated parking space in the front courtyard.
If you rent this property, be ready for a steep climb back up to it on your return from the beach. Like all accommodation of its kind, Mr Blue Sky has that slightly shabby, down-at-heel look and feel because it doesn't receive the care and attention that proper homes do. This doesn't mean it was dirty - it wasn't, it had been cleaned to a good standard for our arrival. The front door key did not operate smoothly and had to be manipulated this way and that before it finally turned - not a good start, but you get used to it. The front fanlight window was difficult to open and close because the mechanism is caked in dust and grime. Although there were two good sofas, there was no coffee table - we had to improvise with a wooden shoe rack and kitchen tray. Unbelievably, someone installed a kitchen in this property with plenty of cupboards, but not a single drawer. In the upper bedroom, a smoke or CO detector had been left dismantled near the window, with its empty baseplate on the ceiling above - this is a serious defect, as it could compromise guests' safety. There are some strange up-and-down steps throughout the property - you go down into the kitchen, then up into the lower bedroom. The bed in this room has a rather alarming drop right beside it, and the outer legs of the bedside table on that side are teetering on that edge - the slightest push would cause it to fall. Again, this is a potentially hazard for guests. The floating frame above the bath in that room is extremely loose on the wall, and is another potential hazard. To summarise, the property could do with some serious attention to maintenance issues, and the facilities could be improved. The company doing the holiday letting for this property is called Luxury Coastal, but "luxury" is one thing that this property isn't, and we question its value for money.

Fun, comfortable, straightforward
Space, comfortable beds, very clear instructions
Shame there is no outside space, but still didn’t impact overall amazing experience, also ventilation for cooking 🙃

A peaceful retreat in a gorgeous location
A gorgeous, airy property. A great location - just a short walk to the beach or town, with lots of restaurants to choose from. However, do make sure you have good walking shoes because St Ives is notoriously very hilly, although can be a nice post-dinner challenge climbing back to the property. The parking space was a huge plus. It was clearly marked, I had no troubles fitting a small-medium sized car into it, and had no issues with anybody else ever using the space. It was a nice added bonus being able to see my car from the living room at all times, for that added sense of security. And the property felt like a peaceful little getaway. The large shower and gorgeous freestanding bath were great for relaxation. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, crockery etc and had a wide range of amenities including oven, dish washer, washing machine, microwave etc. A local contact was provided a few days ahead of arrival and again in the welcome pack inside. This was a lovely peace of mind just in case I had any issues accessing the property. I know others have mentioned difficulties with keys/locking and unlocking the door. Whilst I did struggle the first time I did this, it just seems to be about getting the knack for the specific key/lock. This worked perfectly for me every other time.
I struggled to lift the curtain in the back bedroom even with the instructions provided, perhaps because I am on the shorter side. Leaving this half open rather than fully down for arrivals may be a better option. There did seem to a be some discrepancies between the welcome pack emailed ahead of arrival and what was provided at the property. For example, the version at the property did not include information about what to do with linens upon departure, whereas the emailed version mentioned clear bags being provided to bag them up. I also could not see these bags at all. Perhaps this should be reviewed just for a more coherent experience.
