Disappointing
The location is very good, with lovely views from the terrace and a shortish walk to the dam, which has a track around it. The house is on the upper floor of a farm building, accessed by car from the rear up a steep slope. The property itself is therefore on a single story. The layout and equipment is as described.
The windows are small and have no fly screens. It looks as though the house would be cosy in cold weather, but unfortunately, we arrived in a heatwave after a long drive. We had confirmed an approximate arrival time but there was nobody there when we arrived and no indication of how to access the property. That resulted in me having to make a telephone call to the owner in Spanish, which is not my first language, to be told that there is a key box and was given the code. That could have been communicated by a message prior to arrival. Our feelings about the place were not improved by the presence of bags of rotting rubbish outside the front door. We cannot understand why this was not removed by the owner if the bed was changed. We were further unsettled by a strong smell of garlic in the house and discovered old garlic skins in one of the drawers and a tied plastic bag containing a substance, possibly food, that we preferred not to investigate. During our stay, we discovered several glasses and pieces of cutlery that had not been properly cleaned, possibly because there appeared to be no way of keeping water in the sink. However, there is a dishwasher that could have been used. There were cobwebs in several corners. On the terrace was a broken flowerpot and several dead and dying plants with further dead or sick plants in the house. There was a strip of masking tape across the fire and delamination on two of the cupboard doors in the bathroom. This all contributed to an impression of a run down property and gave us no confidence about cleanliness. We had booked this based on very good reviews, so perhaps we arrived at an unfortunate time. It was the most expensive property we stayed in while we were in Spain, but by far the worst. We were disappointed and will not return to this property.
