Nagisatei Taroan is a little slice of heaven on the Sanriku Coast.
Nagisatei Taroan was a gem in a remote but exceptionally beautiful location. The Kitayamazaki cliffs are absolutely stunning, and it was an added bonus to have such a comfortable place to stay while exploring this region. The suite was spacious, and we had our own onsen as well as the public one. The meals were exceptional, and the view of the forest from the dining area was gorgeous. Most importantly, the staff couldn't have been more helpful in ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay. A special shoutout to Matsumoto and JJ who gave us a personally guided tour and drove us to the station in Morioka.
I would have liked softer pillows. Wifi was slow, but this isn't unexpected for such a remote area.

SInce there is no train, it will take a 2-hour busride between Morioka and the train station. However, that is totally worth it because the ryokan is in such a beautiful location. If you stay two nights, make sure to have an extra bento with you and snacks, as the ryokan does not provide lunch options and there is only one small izakaya close-by. There is a drink-machine closeby, near the look-out parking and washrooms.
