Disappointing
The shuttle service and staff, location for hiking
Considering it was the most expensive stay on our 3 week trip it was not value for money, even though it included dinner and breakfast. Our room attracted cooking smells all through the night. The hotel needs a make over really.

Le cadre, le personnel, la nourriture, les onsens, la chambre spacieuse. Une excellente expérience que je réitérerais avec plaisir lors d'un prochain voyage.
Beaucoup de bruit durant la nuit et des oreillers pas très confortables.

Excellent Ryokan! Highly recommend!
Our stay at Nukumorino-yado was a wonderful part our honeymoon trip to Japan. We were impressed time and time again by how kind and thoughtful all of the staff was. They would note small things we mentioned and follow up on them from the kindness of their hearts. The meals at Nukumorino were a highlight of our time there. Though traditional Japanese food is a departure from the standard western palette, the food was delicious and prepared with so much intention. The staff was always very enthusiastic to share about each of the local ingredients, and how to eat traditional delicacies such as “shabu-shabu.” The baths, both the private tubs and the men’s and women’s tubs felt exceptionally clean and well kept. We were very pleased that a soak in the private tubs was included in our stay both nights. We adored our experience here, and went for a day trip to Narai- Juku, which we enjoyed immensely as well.
The one thing that stood out to us was that there was water damage around the ryokan; however, this did not impact our experience of Nukumorino, especially since we have noted that Japan is extraordinarily humid, so it must be very challenging to keep up with water damage. It is also important to note that most of the guests who frequent Nukumorino (at least in October when we were there) are foreigners, most likely because it is near the highly frequented Nakesendo trail. I say this only to alert travelers who are looking for a foreign friendly experience that Nukumorino is very accommodating in this way, and for those who seek a more “off the beaten path experience”, this is not that!
