Had a nice holiday, hosts lovely just a few issues that need addressing
We had a lovely time, location is great, host were responsive to question, lodge is comfortable. At the moment I don’t feel it is a luxury lodge as the title suggests. However, it would not take much to get to luxury level.
The banister and stairs leading up to the property are rotting and rickety, there is a hole in the floor just inside the door that is covered with sheets of metal, and it does not feel secure. Some simple fly screens for the door would be brilliant being adjacent to a farm there are a considerable amount of flies that like to come inside. A basic fan for use upstairs as in the hot weather it was like sleeping in a sauna. Lastly and for me the most important issue is the free roaming dogs that constantly come into the garden. There is a note about this pinned to the door, but when you have a 3 year old and 6 year old it is a massive problem and can’t keep calling the farmer all the time. I didn’t feel that the kids could run around in the garden as I was constantly picking up dog poo. Then there were the occasions that we would encounter the dogs in the garden, again with children this is not good. There is a note to say they are friendly, but one of the dogs would stand there barking and growling and no one ever knows how a dog will react to strangers and specifically children. So we were not really able to enjoy the outside space. I feel maybe you could change the gates at the entrance and block up the gaps so the dogs cannot get in.

Lovely location and out door space
Dogs coming into the garden and poohing when we were eating breakfast very steep drive in and dust under bed and behind TV also no mattress and pillow protectors which was disgusting

Mostly relaxing
Beautiful and magical location
They could improve the cleanliness and replace the carbon monoxide alarm so others are wasting an evening of their holiday sitting outside while the firemen were investigating

NEVER EVER STAY AT THIS PLACE !
After the experience we have, reading description of the place before booking and then in the reality, I can’t say anything…
The worst accommodation experience I’ve ever had – I can’t believe people still rent out places like this in 2025! Avoid this location! I booked this property for two nights to celebrate my husband birthday. We drove 6 hours from London, excited to enjoy a relaxing weekend and explore the area. Unfortunately, all the excitement disappeared the moment we arrived. The location is completely isolated, hidden between cow and pig farms, with extremely poor and narrow access roads – very hard to reach. You collect the keys from a lockbox using a PIN (you never meet the host). When we finally got there, we were shocked: the property looked nothing like the photos on Booking or Airbnb.(photos made probably more then 10 years ago) Everything was dirty and poorly maintained: bad smells, dust, flies, spider webs everywhere, sticky floors, and furniture, yellowed and dirty pillows and duvets. After booking, you receive an absurd list of house rules (take out your bed linen) basically asking you to do the cleaning yourself – although it was clear the place hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time. We didn’t even find a dish sponge. Everything was old, worn down, and unsanitary. Outside, there’s what they call a gazebo – in reality, a rotten, run-down structure with filthy furniture and obvious signs of rodents and rain inside. Thankfully, we brought our own blankets, plates, cutlery, and basic camping gear. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been able to stay. My honest advice: if you still choose to stay here, ( hope not) bring your own bedding, hygiene products, a fully stocked kitchen – and ideally, fly and rat traps, because there are plenty. I hope this review reaches the owner or whoever is responsible – because it’s unacceptable to rent out this kind of “shed” as a hotel-style accommodation in 2025, especially at such prices.
