Stayed at Oaks Rivermarque, NOT the Oaks Carlyle
Loved how central it is with restaurants and shopping centre a few minutes walk away. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Housekeepers did a wonderful job and weren't intrusive. Reception staff were friendly and accommodating. WE DID NOT STAY AT THE CARLYLE. WE WERE TRANSFERRED TO THE OAKS RIVERMARQUE. THE REVIEW IVE GIVEN HERE IS FOR THE RIVERMARQUE!
Had booked two months in advance with a manager and had received confirmation letter. Two weeks out, I was contacted by Indi from Oaks Carlyle, who informed me 1) their computer overbooked' and we had to move to the Rivermarque or else she would cancel our non refundable booking. I asked her why had it taken so long to find out they were overbooked? 2) She said they had been booked out for over a year, and EVERYONE who had booked within that time was being transferred or cancelled. I know this is an outright lie, as friends who had booked a couple of weeks after us, still had their bookings there. Being transferred within days of our trip and then lied to about it is extremely disappointing. 10/10 for the Rivermarque 0/10 for the Carlyle We go to Mackay regularly, so will stick with the Rivermarque in future. It's not the transfer that's disappointing - it's the way it was handled that annoyed especially being threatened with the $700 non refundable cancellation that got me. A bit of staff training for Indi is highly recommended.
