OK
The room was large. The staff was very helpful and patient. The garden was beautiful. The location was excellent. We liked the historic atmosphere. There was always a place to sit comfortably in the lobby.
The room was not very well maintained: Dusty rug, a bathroom door not fitted in the frame, low water pressure in the shower (and also no Handheld showerhead), AC was noisy and did not smell the best.

Lovely hotel, definitely aging
Really solid hotel, we had a great stay in a spacious suite, it's in a good location (easy walk to the zoo) and a lovely pool. It's an old hotel and it shows a bit but if you enjoy the history of the building its actually really grand.
They didn't tell us there was construction on our actual balcony, I popped out of the bathroom with a towel on and there was a workman standing on our balcony staring at me through the French doors. Scary

Rough start to a mediocre stay.
It was a very old style hotel, very back rooms type place, which is fun if you like that kinda thing.
The front desk staff had a very hard time checking me in, turned me away told me I probably couldn’t stay there after asking for and then charging three different bank cards 6 times for the entire cost of the stay. The charges got reversed but I had thousands of dollars of cc holds for about a week. Eventually I asked a different employee to try again after a few mins. He also ended up charging a card twice, but was able to see the “problem” and fix it to let up stay there. There was an interesting smell in much of the hotel. I probably couldn’t have enjoyed the “former nice hotel” vibe if they hadn’t almost turned me away.
